Colombo does not have one postal code. Colombo city uses codes from 00100 for Colombo 01 to 01500 for Colombo 15, while suburbs such as Nugegoda, Rajagiriya, Battaramulla and Dehiwala have their own five-digit codes.
Sri Lanka officially calls these numbers postcodes or postal codes. If a website asks for a Sri Lanka “zip code”, enter the same five-digit postcode. Keep the first zero in Colombo city codes—for example, enter 00300, not 300, for Colombo 03.
Quick answer: Nugegoda is 10250, Rajagiriya is 10107, Battaramulla is 10120, Dehiwala is 10350, Ratmalana is 10390 and Wellampitiya commonly uses 10600. For Nawala, 10107 is commonly used through Rajagiriya. Always check the delivery post office when a neighbourhood crosses a postal boundary.

High-demand Colombo postcode answers
Wellampitiya postal code: commonly 10600
Wellampitiya is commonly addressed through the Kolonnawa postal area, 10600. The Department of Posts directory lists Kolonnawa as 10600 rather than giving every Wellampitiya neighbourhood its own main entry. If the street is near an adjoining delivery boundary, confirm the office printed on an existing utility bill or ask the post office.
Rajagiriya and Nawala postal codes: 10107 with a boundary warning
Rajagiriya is officially listed as 10107. Nawala is commonly served through Rajagiriya and many Nawala addresses use 10107, but “Nawala” covers streets close to other postal areas. For a bank, immigration, courier or legal document, use the postcode already assigned to the exact address rather than applying 10107 to every Nawala location automatically.
Angoda postal code: commonly 10620
Angoda addresses commonly use 10620, the official postcode for Mulleriyawa New Town. Angoda is a neighbourhood name rather than a separate main entry in the national directory used for this guide. Check the delivery office for an address near Kolonnawa, Gothatuwa or another boundary.
Nugegoda, Mirihana and Udahamulla: commonly 10250
Nugegoda is officially 10250. Mirihana and Udahamulla addresses commonly use that postal area. However, roads toward Kotte, Maharagama or Pannipitiya can fall under a different delivery office, so the locality name alone is not conclusive.
Gothatuwa and Orugodawatta: usually checked through Kolonnawa
Gothatuwa and Orugodawatta commonly use 10600 through Kolonnawa. Parts of the wider Gothatuwa–Mulleriyawa side may use 10620. This is exactly why a postcode directory built only from popular neighbourhood names can produce confident but wrong answers.
Pita Kotte, Madiwela and Thalapathpitiya: commonly 10100
These Kotte-area neighbourhoods commonly use 10100, the official Sri Jayawardenepura postal code. Talawatugoda is a separate official postal-town entry at 10116, and Battaramulla is 10120. Do not use “Kotte” as a substitute for checking the exact locality.
Kohuwala and Kalubowila need street-level checking
Kalubowila commonly uses Dehiwala 10350. Kohuwala sits close to both Nugegoda and Dehiwala postal areas, so addresses may use 10250 or 10350 depending on the delivery office. Use an existing official bill, the receiving institution’s recorded address or post-office confirmation.
Katubedda, Ratmalana and Attidiya
Katubedda commonly uses Moratuwa 10400. Ratmalana is officially 10390, and Attidiya commonly uses the Ratmalana postal area. Be careful near the Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia sides, where a nearby place name can suggest the wrong code.
Kiribathgoda postal code: 11601
The Department of Posts directory lists Kiribathgoda as 11601. It is in Gampaha District, although it is often grouped with metropolitan Colombo. Nearby Kelaniya uses 11600, so the two codes should not be treated as interchangeable.
Kahathuduwa, Kesbewa and Pepiliyana
Kahathuduwa addresses commonly use the Polgasowita 10320 postal area; Kesbewa addresses commonly use Piliyandala 10300; and Pepiliyana commonly uses Boralesgamuwa 10290. These popular neighbourhood terms do not appear as separate main entries in the directory used here, so confirm the exact street before important mail. Kahathuduwa is sometimes incorrectly listed online with Homagama 10200; use 10320 only when the address is served through Polgasowita and verify a boundary-area address with the delivery office.
Colombo 01 to Colombo 15 postal codes
The Colombo city zone number and postcode are related, but they are not written in the same format. “Colombo 3” is the city zone; its five-digit postal code is 00300.

Is there one Colombo zip code?
No. “Colombo zip code” is a search phrase, not one code that applies to the whole city. A form asking for the zip code of a Colombo 07 address needs 00700, while a Rajagiriya address normally needs 10107. Entering 00100 merely because the address says Colombo can route the item to the wrong postal area.
The same rule applies to “Sri Lanka zip code.” Sri Lanka has many five-digit postcodes, not a universal national code. Use the code assigned to the recipient’s postal town.

Postal areas that are often confused
Colombo 06, Dehiwala and Nugegoda
Wellawatte in Colombo 06 uses 00600. Dehiwala, immediately south of the numbered city, uses 10350. Nugegoda, inland from the coastal side, uses 10250. These urban areas are close together, but their codes are not variations of one Colombo number.
Kohuwala and Kalubowila illustrate the boundary problem. Kalubowila is commonly addressed through Dehiwala 10350, while Kohuwala addresses can be associated with the Nugegoda or Dehiwala side. The exact delivery office, not the nearest well-known junction, decides the correct code.
Kotte, Rajagiriya and Battaramulla
The main directory entries are Sri Jayawardenepura 10100, Rajagiriya 10107 and Battaramulla 10120. They are separate postal towns or areas within the connected administrative-capital side of metropolitan Colombo.
Pita Kotte, Madiwela and Thalapathpitiya commonly use the Sri Jayawardenepura postal area, while Nawala commonly uses Rajagiriya. Talawatugoda has its own entry, 10116. Do not enter 10100 for every address described generally as “Kotte.”
Kolonnawa and Mulleriyawa New Town
Kolonnawa is 10600 and Mulleriyawa New Town is 10620. Wellampitiya, Orugodawatta and many Gothatuwa addresses are commonly associated with the Kolonnawa delivery area, while Angoda is commonly associated with Mulleriyawa New Town.
A locality near the boundary can be described by a familiar neighbouring name while served from the other office. For documents that must match an identity, bank or government record, copy the established property address rather than “correcting” it from a generic lookup.
Moratuwa, Ratmalana and Mount Lavinia
The main codes are Moratuwa 10400, Ratmalana 10390 and Mount Lavinia 10370. Katubedda commonly uses Moratuwa 10400, and Attidiya commonly uses Ratmalana 10390. Soysapura is a separate directory entry at 10412.
These codes do not follow a simple north-to-south numerical sequence that can be guessed. Use the specific postal town for the street.
Kelaniya, Kiribathgoda and Peliyagoda
These locations are in Gampaha District even though they are part of the wider Colombo urban area. Kelaniya is 11600, Kiribathgoda is 11601 and Peliyagoda is 11830. The one-digit difference between Kelaniya and Kiribathgoda does not make the codes interchangeable.
If an online form has separate city and district fields, enter the actual locality in the city or postal-town field and Gampaha in the district field when that is what the form requests. Do not choose Colombo District merely because the destination is marketed as Greater Colombo.
Entering a Colombo postcode in online forms
A form rejects the leading zero
Colombo city postcodes are five digits. 00100, 00300 and 00700 are valid five-character entries; removing the first zeros changes the value. If a form converts the entry to a number or rejects it, the form has likely been configured incorrectly for international postal codes.
Try selecting Sri Lanka as the country before entering the postcode. If the form still strips the zero, contact the organisation and provide the complete address in an additional address field rather than inventing another code.
A form asks for ZIP, postal code or PIN code
For a Sri Lankan address, enter the same official five-digit postcode when the field says ZIP code or postal code. “PIN code” is terminology commonly used for India; on an international form it may still be the only available label for the destination’s postal code. Check that Sri Lanka is selected and use the Sri Lankan code.
A form asks for city, state and postcode
Use the postal town or locality for the city field, the province or district only as the form specifically defines it, and the five-digit code in the postcode field. For example, a Kiribathgoda address should not be changed to “Colombo” merely to make the fields look familiar.
Sri Lanka does not use US states. If “state/province” is mandatory, Western Province may be appropriate for a Colombo, Gampaha or Kalutara address; if the form explicitly asks for district, enter the actual district instead. Match the organisation’s instructions and the recipient’s established official address.
A courier suggests a different area name
Courier databases may use service zones, map localities or their own standardised city labels. That suggestion does not necessarily change the Department of Posts postcode. Confirm whether the courier wants its service-area label while retaining the recipient’s postal address and code.
For passports, banking, examinations or legal records, consistency with the official property address can matter more than a courier autocomplete label. Ask the receiving organisation before changing an established address.
How to use a Sri Lanka postcode correctly
- Use the code for the delivery post office or postal town, not simply the nearest large city.
- Write all five digits and preserve a leading zero in Colombo city codes.
- Put the postal town and postcode near the bottom of the address, before “Sri Lanka” for international mail.
- If an online form says “ZIP code”, enter the same Sri Lankan postcode.
- Confirm boundary-area addresses with the nearest post office instead of relying only on the neighbourhood name.
Sri Lanka Post’s mail-addressing guidance says to write the postal town and postcode clearly at the bottom of the address. The Department introduced five-digit postal zoning in 1997 to make sorting more reliable, particularly where places share similar names.

These fields can appear together without meaning the same thing. For example, Kiribathgoda is commonly described as part of metropolitan Colombo, but its official postal-town entry is 11601 and it is in Gampaha District.
How to verify a postcode before important mail
Use this order of evidence when a neighbourhood sits near a boundary:
- Check the complete postal address already used successfully by the recipient.
- Look for the postal town and code on an official utility bill, bank record or government letter for that property.
- Check the Department of Posts directory for the postal town—not only the popular neighbourhood name.
- Ask the receiving post office which delivery office serves the exact street.
- For a courier, also follow that carrier’s address validation because courier service zones are not necessarily postal boundaries.
This extra check is especially useful for Nawala, Kohuwala, Gothatuwa, Kahathuduwa, Welisara and other places where the name people use in conversation may not be the name of a separate post-office entry.
