How do I check a tutor is genuine?

Ask to see original degree or teaching certificates, not photocopies. Ask which school or institute they teach at and confirm it. Ask for two current parents' numbers and actually call them. Attend the first class at the institute or somewhere public. Pay month to month rather than for a full term up front. If a teacher will not agree to a paid trial class, treat that as a warning.
